Also brought over from British architecture is a focus upon (almost an obsession with) symmetry. A central staircase usually stands behind the front door, and window distribution is equilateral. Sometimes gabled roofs are tall enough to contain an attic floor with windows in the gables. Original houses in this style are in huge demand, but modern variants continue to be built, which retain the cool, charming qualities that are essential to this type of home. In the 1940s, Frank Lloyd Wright, in particular, popularized a more accessible and site-specific style of Modern architecture, which softened some of the brutalism of earlier incarnations. Inside, ceilings often feature exposed interior beams in a rustic style. These homes can be quite tall with steeply sloped roofs and multiple floors.

Kids are also required to remain seated completely during the entire tour. There is no exchanging of kids from one parent to another while the ride is in motion. Due to the nature of this ride being open and on the water, the Skippers are very strict about this. As your tour boat approaches the dock again wait on your Skipper to give the word to gather all your belongings and disembark. Jungle Cruise Ride Age and Height Restrictions
That’s a fast turnaround time, and it also comes during a year when there’s no guarantee that physical distancing or barriers will be removed from boats. As it stands, the guest experience on Jungle Cruise is significantly impeded. (To the point that it’s the one attraction we avoid right now.) I’m surprised Disney would want to debut the changes with all of that still potentially in place. Per the Disney Parks Blog, these new adventures will stay true to the Jungle Cruise experience fans know and love. The ride reimagining will add more humor, wildlife, and skipper heart, while also reflecting and valuing the diversity of the world around us.

In January 2021, Disney announced that some much-needed changes were coming to the Jungle Cruise on both coasts. Ironically, before becoming known for its laughs and silly jokes, the attraction as a whole was initially more of a serious tone with only a few jokes inserted here and there. Anyone riding with kids may want to tell them the animals aren’t real prior to riding. Overall, Jungle Cruise is very kid-friendly, as all ages and heights are permitted to board and ride. You will pass by your Skippers pet python snake and a camp being broken down by Gorillas.
What to Expect When You Ride
Christmas is another fun time to ride Jungle Cruise– or “Jingle Cruise”, as it’s called– as it gets a makeover for the season and a snowman attraction is added. Some riders report that the skippers tend to have more fun during sundown. All guests should take care as they step down onto the boat from the dock, as it can bob and lean slightly while boarding. There, you’ll find yourself sailing into a temple damaged by an earthquake. The ride will end just as you narrowly avoid being sprayed by a group of Indian Elephants. In this new area, you’ll find African Elephants along with many other animals.

The Jungle Cruise, a flagship attraction at both Disneyland and Disney World, offers guests a whimsical voyage through exotic landscapes filled with animatronic animals and engaging skippers. However, a modern guest would be hard-pressed to recognize much of the attraction. There was no ad-libbed humor from the skippers, who played the entire experience straight. To be honest, I’m not totally sure why Jungle Cruise is as popular as it is. Based on guests I’ve seen when I (pretty frequently) ride it, I assume many casual guests are expecting something a little different.
As an outdoor attraction, the Jungle Cruise takes guests on a journey through an artificial river landscape, complete with animatronic animals and lush jungle scenery. Certain sections of the ride are covered, providing shade and enhancing the overall experience. The boat then passes a lost safari group that has been chased up a pole by an angry black rhinoceros and are now trapped and surrounded by spotted hyenas. The group then passes by a pair of Nile Crocodiles and another waterfall, Schweitzer Falls (which riders are told is named after Dr. Albert Falls), and heads past the remains of a plane crash. The boat then encounters a pool of hippos, about to charge the boat until the skipper scares them off (yelling at them in Florida, firing a gun at them in California).

A select number of boats are wheelchair accessible and have space for a single wheelchair. The whole experience is fun and comical and suitable for the whole family. There is an instance of gunfire sound effects, but guests can request that it’s not played if this will trouble someone at the party.
A Unique Experience at Night
Probably the best time to get in line for Jungle Cruise is first thing in the morning. This ride isn’t included in Early Theme Park Entry for resort guests, so even if you’re staying off-site, you’ll have an equal chance to get in line first thing in the morning. Because it’s closer to the front of the park, the line can form quickly, however, so don’t dilly-dally when getting over there. You’ll actually find MOST of the best hidden details in the queue of the ride, so even if you’re waiting in a long line, don’t worry! You can spend that time checking out all the fun nods to Disney history and Jungle Cruise lore.

While the ride is quite cruisy, the fun of Jungle Cruise lies with the skipper. There is a script, but most skippers will bring their own flare to the show– keeping guests laughing and the energy high. The real OG Jungle Cruise opened at Disneyland in the 1950s, and versions of the ride exist in all Disney theme parks worldwide.
These are part of the ruins of an ancient Cambodian city where a crumbling temple is one of the few things which have managed to avoid tumbling into the river. Here passengers see an Indochinese tiger, giant spiders, king cobras and mugger crocodiles. Passing a statue of a bowing elephant, the boats pass under the second arch and enter the Sacred Indian Elephant Bathing Pool. Here a large herd of Indian elephants frolic and squirt water at the passing vessels.
Let Disney Genie service summon the attractions, entertainment and dining you love most. Following these mid-90s refurbishments, the Jungle Cruise continued to be one of Disney’s marquee attractions. As a testament to said importance, in 2013, both American versions of the attraction were given a holiday overlay and temporarily renamed The Jingle Cruise. The Orlando version of the ride was similar to its Anaheim counterpart, though not a direct clone, and served the same purpose as the anchor attraction of the park’s Adventureland section. The Jungle Cruise’s status as one of Disney’s premier attractions was further solidified when a version of the ride opened with Walt Disney World and Magic Kingdom in 1971.
The bench doesn’t have a back, so if you lean back you’ll find yourself against the slightly curved side of the boat. He then handed it over to his granddaughter Alberta Falls in the 1930s, where the story of the ride takes place. In 2010, the jungle became a self-sustaining ecosystem, after 45 years of careful care and growth. The ride has also removed elements that were offensive to native cultures. To achieve this, he used a mix of tropical plants and plants that appeared to be tropical (but were actually local).
It has a cult following among longtime fans and has achieved iconic status via longevity, but doesn’t have as much mainstream appeal. While that’s obviously not the impetus for these changes, we’re cautiously optimistic about anything that makes the attraction more coherent, consistent, and enjoyable to first-timers. As with Splash Mountain at Tokyo Disneyland, it seems unlikely that Jungle Cruise will change in Japan. In part this is because Oriental Land Company–and not Disney–owns those parks, but also because that incarnation of the attraction changed a few years ago.
However, Genie+ can no longer be pre-purchased– though you can still purchase through the app when you visit the park. However, due to public outcry, it was announced in 2022 that FastPass would be coming back to the parks. You can find it by going to the hub and taking the first left to Adventureland.
In the rocky canyon, the boats stop near two unusual rock formations that look like faces, revealed by the skipper to be the fire god and the water god who constantly feud over their differences. The fire god sets the river ablaze while the water god vomits a water bomb, causing the flames to die and the whole canyon to become a cloud of steam. The boats escape the canyon and pass a baby elephant before returning to the boathouse. The queue takes place in a small boathouse of The Jungle Navigation Co. that is less elaborate than the boathouses found at the other parks. After winding through the queue, guests board one of the boats and meet their skipper who speaks either English, Cantonese, or Mandarin, to accompany the park's guests who speak many different languages themselves.
The cruise concludes after the boat narrowly avoids being sprayed by water from one of the elephants. The queue of the Jungle Cruise is heavily themed with period artifacts, tools, gear, photos and more. It is intended to resemble a colonial outpost where an exploration of the jungle rivers may be booked. It is divided into four main sections which may be opened or closed in sequence to accommodate crowd fluctuation. The queue was designed to wind about extensively so that guests may see all of the different artifacts in the queue. Moreover, there’s still no timeline set for the Splash Mountain reimagining, and rumors that the finished project could be years away.
